Amiral de Beychevelle is the second wine of Château Beychevelle, one of the finest châteaux and producers in the Médoc.
The château is situated on the banks of the Gironde. During the 16th century it was owned by the Duc d’Epernon, a French naval admiral. It is said that French ships on the Gironde were required to lower their sails in respect as they went past. This act – baisse voile – in French led to the name Beychevelle.
